Sustainable beauty swops - Shampoo Bars

Updated: Jul 27, 2022

Our Shampoo Bars are an all-natural product - in the years before liquid detergent shampoo, everyone washed their hair with a bar of soap. Commercial soaps and shampoos are not natural, and some of the ingredients are the same as you would find in a bottle of washing-up liquid.

Vegan/Natural shampoo bars only contain the ingredients to clean your hair without stripping it of essential oils. Our bars are environmentally friendly and plastic-free with no artificial fragrances or colours.

Is a shampoo bar the same as a soap bar? Not precisely - recipes are different in the proportions of natural oils, botanicals and essential oils selected to help nourish and clean the scalp and hair.

How to switch from detergent shampoo to natural shampoo bars:

It's important to wet your hair thoroughly, just as you would if using your usual shampoo. Saturate all the hair from scalp to roots.

Lather up the shampoo bar using your hands, use the shampoo bar directly on your scalp and work down towards the ends of your hair - use more water to create a rich lather.

Gently massage scalp and hair and work up a good lather - this allows all that dirt to rinse away and prevents a build-up of soap.

Rinse hair several times until there is no soapy residue left - rinsing well is essential so no fatty soap deposits are left on the scalp.

The transition from detergent-based shampoo can take time. Shampoo bars are easy to use but finding the best technique for your hair type may take a few attempts. You could alternate between your commercial and a natural shampoo bar.

If you live in a hard-water area, you may need to make the final rinse with diluted Apple Cider Vinegar until your hair has adapted to the new product.

How do I store my shampoo bar?

If your bar starts to get soggy, place it on a well-draining soap dish for a few days so it can thoroughly dry out.

Allow your shampoo bar to dry out completely and air between uses.

Always store on a well-drained soap dish.

Please don't leave it in a puddle of water in the shower or bath, or you may find it's turned into a gloopy mess.

We will offer a free soap dish with all purchases of our new shampoo bars in January - keep a lookout for all our special offers, news and more by signing up for our web newsletter or following us on Facebook & Instagram. We will be publishing all feedback we receive on our new shampoo bars.
