At Live Well, all our packaging, from the pretty wrappers and labels on our soaps to the containers and jars we use for our skincare range, can all be recycled or re-used. The beautiful soap wrappers are perfect for crafting projects, and our pretty gift boxes only need the two magnetic closers removed before recycling, or you can re-use them for storage.
There would be no plastic to recycle in a perfect world, but that is nearly impossible as thousands of components within cars, planes, ships, and household appliances use various types of plastic.
The PET plastics (polyethylene terephthalate) used to manufacture containers for most cosmetics, household cleaning agents, and drinks are not only recyclable but they can also be ground down and turned into another jar or bottle.
At Live Well, we use a combination of materials for packaging our skincare, all of which are fully recyclable or compostable. PET plastic containers are the material of choice for the following reasons:
Containers are lightweight for transport and packaging.
They are strong, minimising additional packaging in transit.
Fully recyclable and low energy input in the recycling process
PET plastic does not leach harmful chemicals if disposed of in a landfill site.
So, although it will be impossible for many companies to be 100% plastic-free, we are making a difference with manufacturers and recycling plants.
The plastics industry is not to blame for the waste that we find in our oceans; instead, it's the lack of education worldwide. With the right education, we can better understand what happens when plastic bags and waste are carelessly discarded.
There is pressure on different industries to come up with viable alternatives to plastic packaging and waste-companies to increase the type of plastics they can recycle and dispose of in a less harmful way to our environment. We are starting to see real changes, but there is a long way to go!
