Body scrubs are ideal for getting an all-over exfoliation, massage and polish; concentrating on the rougher parts of the body, like elbows, knees and the soles of your feet. The combination of cleansing, exfoliation and massage provides mental as well as physical benefits.
There are various types of body scrubs available; with the main exfoliation ingredient as sugar or salt. Cane sugar scrub is a better option than salt as it is softer, with finer granules and is suitable for most skin types. The beauty of sugar is that it quickly melts away in the shower and won't block up the drains!
Raw cane sugar is an excellent humectant and locks in skins moisture, whereas salt is very drying. It's the glycolic acid that occurs naturally in sugar that helps cleanse the skin and dissolve dead skin cells.
Whilst searching for a chemical-free body scrub, I came across Starest Natural Skincare. I had already tried and loved their hair products so purchased their newly launched organic coffee & orange body scrub.
Before I used the scrub, I had already taken a shower, this ensured my skin was damp, and the scrub would be easy to work with.
You can either gently massage in using your hands or a washcloth. There’s no need to apply lots of pressure, as the natural sugar granules are all that's needed to gently slough off dead skin cells, leaving you soft and smooth.
When you massage the scrub into your skin, you get the wonderful aroma of coffee and orange, which adds to the at-home luxurious spa experience. When finished, rinse off, pat dry and apply your favourite moisturiser. The scrub made me feel lovely, invigorated and refreshed!
I love this natural organic product. I had tried some high-street brands but ever mindful that I no longer want to purchase any beauty product that contained anything other than 100% natural ingredients; those have now gone! I've pared down my collection of skincare products, and Starest Coffee Orange body scrub is definitely in my bathroom cabinet.
Starest Organic* & natural ingredients:
Sucrose* (raw cane sugar), Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) seed oil*, Coffea arabica* (coffee, fair trade), Oryza sativa (rice) bran oil, citrus Aurantium Dulcis (orange) peel powder, citrus Sinensis (sweet orange) peel oil*, tocopherol, helianthus seed oil.
There are so many body scrubs on the market. Choosing one that contains zero harmful ingredients is kinder for your skin and the environment too. In 2015 exfoliants using plastic microbeads were banned from the market because the tiny non-biodegradable beads were ending up in streams, lakes and oceans.
